saving for your childrens education
For many parents, giving their child a good education is a key priority. In particular, giving a child the option of third level education is a wonderful start to his or her adult life.
Starting to plan early for education helps you with the costs in two ways. First of all it spreads the cost over a greater period. Secondly it allows you to consider savings options which give higher growth potential.
No doubt, as your children move through school they will change their mind many times on what they want to be "when they grow up". Whatever their aspirations, it would be nice to know that money won’t be a barrier. Starting early gives you that confidence.
How much is it going to cost?
Second level education can cost up to €2,000 per year in addition to any private school fees. Third level education, can cost almost €10,000 per year. That’s a potential overall cost of over €50,000* for just one child.
Recent discussions on the re-introduction of third level education fees have many parents facing a further concern about meeting these costs. Any reintroduction in the next few years could leave many parents with little time to save.
For example, 74%* of parents surveyed by New Ireland see themselves as needing to borrow to fund the cost of putting their children through college, rising to 90%* if the Government re-introduces college fees.
